In mid-April, the Chinese company Hunan Dakang, a pig breeder, through its Australian subsidiary, was in the box seat to lead the purchase of S Kidman & Co, a pastoral company that owns more than 100,000 sq km of Australian farmland, or about 1.3 per cent of the country.
