Apple loses trademark dispute in China

Apple has been dealt another blow in China, after a Beijing court ruled that it cannot prevent the iPhone name being used on certain leather accessories sold in the country by another company.

In a lawsuit, the US technology group had sought to stop Xintong Tiandi Technology, a little known accessories maker, from using the iPhone trademark on wallets and purses.

But the ruling affirmed that Xintong has the right to use the iPhone name on its products, according to state publication Legal Daily, because the Chinese company holds a Class 18 trademark covering leather and imitation leather goods, ranging from smartphone cases to wallets and clutch bags.
