Police on Thursday shot dead a man who stormed a cinema in western Germany armed with a gun and explosives and took several hostages.
The attacker took several hostages in the incident at the Rhein-Neckar shopping centre in the small town of Viernheim, south of Frankfurt, in the region of Hessen.
Peter Beuth, the Hessen interior minister, confirmed the assailant, who fired four shots from a “long-barrelled” gun and was masked, had been killed.
