Xi expands probes into official corruption

Corruption investigators are preparing for more inspections at China’s finance and foreign ministries in an extension of President Xi Jinping’s campaign.

The latest phase of the drive that netted high-flying “tigers” such as Zhou Yongkang, a senior party leader, and hundreds of thousands of lower-ranking cadres and business executives comes as Mr Xi prepares for a leadership transition next year.

The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, which combats corruption in the ruling Chinese Communist party, is sending investigators to 29 party and government bodies including the ministries of foreign affairs, finance and public security, it said this week.
