Suspect in custody over Canada mosque shooting

A man was being held in custody on Monday in connection with the mass shooting at a Quebec City mosque, an act that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau condemned as a “terrorist attack on Muslims”.

Six people were killed and five more were in critical condition in hospital, after a fatal shooting during Sunday’s evening prayers in an Islamic cultural centre in the capital city of Canada’s French-speaking province.

A second male who had been arrested was reclassified as a witness. One of the two men, who were not identified by name but are in their “late 20s to early 30s”, called police following the shooting. Canadian authorities said it was “much too early” to know the motives behind the attack.
