Apple pledges $1bn jobs investment in Trump’s America

Apple is investing $1bn in a new US-based “advanced manufacturing fund” as part of an effort to boost American job creation, a move that chimes with Donald Trump’s America First agenda.

The investment comes after the US president criticised Apple during last year’s election campaign over its reliance on manufacturing the iPhone and other products overseas, particularly in China.

Apple is the latest Silicon Valley company to attempt to build bridges with the new administration, after Amazon promised to create 100,000 US jobs over the next two years and Intel said it would invest a total of $7bn in a new chipmaking plant in Arizona.
