The outlook for the world economy is improving, Christine Lagarde, International Monetary Fund head, will tell world leaders this week, but she will warn that the upturn could be jeopardised without more co-operation.
In a briefing note to this week’s G20 summit in Hamburg, Ms Lagarde will deliver uncomfortable messages to the host, Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel, and others, including Donald Trump, US president, and Xi Jinping, China’s president.
Ms Lagarde is concerned that the upturn is built on weak foundations, making it difficult to guarantee improvements in living standards.
