Investors need answers about Beijing’s goals

China has slipped down the list of the fears nagging investors. A sudden restriction in the supply of new Chinese lending topped the list of so-called “tail risks” identified by professional investors in May and June, in a regular Bank of America Merrill Lynch survey.

However, this month those worries were superseded by fears of a crash in bond markets or mistakes by western central bankers intent on tightening monetary policy.

The world’s second-largest economy now promises to draw further attention, as its political elite gathers for the 19th National Communist Party Congress in October, where they will set a direction for the next five years. Here are three questions investors should be asking.
