Guo Wengui, the Chinese businessman who has made explosive corruption allegations against senior Communist party members from self-imposed exile in New York, says he has applied for asylum in the US.
“My homeland wants to hurt me, wants to destroy me and my family,” Mr Guo said in a video released on Twitter late on Thursday.
Mr Guo’s claim of an asylum application comes as his main target, anti-corruption tsar Wang Qishan, appears to have regained his footing following months of attacks by the businessman.
