Chinese President Xi Jinping said in a phone call with Donald Trump on Tuesday that all sides should work to keep up the “hard won momentum” over the nuclear situation on the Korean peninsula and work to restart talks, according to state media.
State news agency Xinhua reported Mr Xi had told Mr Trump China was “ready to join the US for proper settlement of [the] nuclear issue”.
South Korea and North Korea held their first face-to-face talks in more than two years last Tuesday, during which Pyongyang agreed to send athletes to next month’s Winter Olympics near Seoul.
