Chen Xiaolu, the influential Chinese princeling who was an early backer of insurer Anbang, has died after a heart attack at the age of 71 on the southern island of Hainan.
Chen was one of the most prominent among his generation of “princelings” — the children of the founders of China’s ruling Communist party, although he held no official posts.
Later in life he served as a conscience for his peers, atoning for the sins of the cultural revolution when party officialdom could not. Chen died on Wednesday, according to friends.
