Was it right to interview Steve Bannon?

The email to the editor was to the point. Justin Quirk was cancelling his subscription in light of the FT’s decision to book Steve Bannon for a forthcoming event in New York on the future of news.

“I respect and enjoy your paper enormously, and have done for many years, and I accept that there is a need to air differing ideas on public platforms, but this is beyond the pale. He is a wilfully destructive ethno-nationalist who has most recently thrown his support behind a sexual predator (Roy Moore in Alabama) and encouraged Front National supporters to proudly wear the labels of racism and nativism.”

Our frustrated reader concluded: “A serious newspaper should be playing no part in boosting his profile and I have no wish to even partially fund this catastrophic error of judgment.”
