China’s vice premier Washington-bound for further trade talks

The White House announced on Monday that Xi Jinping’s top economic adviser, vice premier Liu He, would be travelling to Washington for further talks next week.

“We are working on something that we think will be great for everybody,” White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders told reporters.

The visit from Mr Liu, who led China’s side in trade talks last week in Beijing, is a signal that both sides want to move quickly. But it also comes after both sides took a hard line going into the first round of talks, which are aimed at averting a trade war.
