A former top Chinese official once tipped as a potential successor to Xi Jinping has been sentenced to life in prison for corruption, state media reported on Tuesday.
Sun Zhengcai, previously the top party official in Chongqing, south-west China, was put under investigation for graft by Beijing in July last year and charged with corruption in February.
The Tianjin First Intermediate People's Court found that Sun had accepted more than RMB 170 million ($26m) in bribes, Xinhua reported.
