The Taiwan government has hit out against China after Burkina Faso became the second country in less than a month to cut formal relations with Taiwan.
The tiny west African nation on Thursday announced it would relinquish diplomatic ties with Taiwan, in what is almost certainly a precursor to formally recognising China and marking a diplomatic victory for Beijing.
China had “worked to end Taiwan’s 24-year diplomatic relationship with Burkina Faso,” Taiwan’s foreign ministry said. “We condemn China’s actions in the strongest terms.”
