Rio Tinto is joining forces with one of China’s most powerful mining companies to look for new mineral deposits.
The Anglo-Australian group said it was forming a joint venture with state-backed China Minmetals that would seek to identify ore bodies first in China and then the rest of the world.
“The formalisation of the exploration joint venture is an important milestone in our growing partnership with China and Minmetals, who is an increasingly important player in the global mining industry,” said Rio Tinto chief executive Jean-Sébastien Jacques.
