A year ago, Kim Jong Un was the world’s number one pariah as the North Korean regime brought the region to the edge of conflict with one missile test after another.
Now, the North Korean dictator has the world at his door, with adversaries and allies alike pushing to meet the 34-year-old, who until March had never been abroad on a state visit.
On Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin invited Mr Kim to Vladivostok in September. The invitation came just days after the North Korean leader met Sergei Lavrov, Russia’s foreign minister, in Pyongyang.
