North Korean state media on Monday hailed the arrival of Kim Jong Un in Singapore, saying his summit with Donald Trump would be a chance to discuss peace and disarmament “as required by the changed era”.
The comments — after weeks of silence ahead of the historic meeting — will bolster hopes that Mr Kim is genuine about his repeated pledges to abandon nuclear weapons and set the reclusive nation on a path towards economic liberalisation and reform.
For weeks, North Korea media did not report on the prospect of a meeting. Now with less than 24 hours before the landmark event, hopes are growing the two nations can put aside decades of animosity.
