Huawei boss hits back at US congressmen over university links

Huawei has accused the US congressmen leading the attack against its growing links with foreign universities of being "quite close-minded and ill-informed".

Speaking in Shanghai, rotating chairman Eric Xu said of Jim Banks and Marco Rubio: "It seems that their bodies are in the information age, but their minds are still in the agrarian age". 

Long a lightning rod for US angst about Chinese snooping and IP theft, the Shenzhen- based telecoms company has come under renewed attack over its web of links into universities across the globe, mirroring on a smaller scale Beijing's own soft power push.
