Trump administration recommends blocking China Mobile from US market

The Trump administration has recommended denying market entry to China Mobile, the state-owned Chinese telecommunications group, citing national security concerns.

In a statement published on Tuesday evening the National Telecommunications and Information Administration, part of the Department of Commerce, said it had recommended the Federal Communications Commission to block a 2011 application by China Mobile to offer telecoms services from within the US.

David Redl, assistant secretary for communications and information at the commerce department, said that “After significant engagement with China Mobile, concerns about increased risks to US law enforcement and national security interests were unable to be resolved”.
