Najib Razak, former prime minister of Malaysia, was charged with three counts of criminal breach of trust on Wednesday in Kuala Lumpur.
Mr Najib was also charged under the anti-corruption act for alleged abuse of office.
The charges were made in relation to SRC International, a former subsidiary of 1MDB, the state investment fund from which some $4.5bn has allegedly gone missing.
