Wall Street up for third session, dollar hit by Trump’s Fed broadside

Wall Street trudged higher for a third straight session on Monday, on the eve of equalling the record for the longest US postwar bull market.

There was, however, a small sell-off in stocks just before the closing bell, and a more sizeable drop in the dollar, after Donald Trump said he was “ not thrilled” about the Federal Reserve’s decisions this year to raise interest rates.

The S&P 500 closed about 0.24 per cent higher on Monday, leaving it 0.6 per cent below its previous record high in late January. The benchmark’s best sectors were energy and materials, each up 0.7 per cent, and industrials, up 0.6 per cent.
