Moon urges US president and Kim to be ‘bold’ at next summit

South Korea has called on the US and North Korea to make “bold decisions” to­wards scrapping Pyongyang’s nuc­lear programme at a high-stakes summit to ease a diplomatic deadlock.

The comments from President Moon Jae-in came shortly after the White House announced that Donald Trump, his US counterpart, was preparing for a second meeting with Kim Jong Un, the North Korean leader, despite poor pro­gress on denuclearisation since the landmark June meeting in Singapore.

“If we are to move up to a higher level, where we will dismantle North Korea’s nuclear arsenal, we once again need bold ideas and decisions by the two leaders of North Korea and the United States,” Mr Moon said yesterday.
