Former president Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton have been targeted by suspected explosive devices sent in the mail, while a similar “live” package was received at the CNN offices at the Time Warner Center in New York.
In a briefing outside the building, Bill de Blasio, New York mayor, described the incident as an “act of terror”.
“What we saw here today was an effort to terrorise,” said Mr de Blasio: “This is a very painful time in our nation. And it’s a time when people are feeling a lot of hatred in the air. Incidents like this exacerbate that pain and exacerbate that fear.”
