Beijing remains ready to talk with Washington to resolve a bitter trade dispute, a top Chinese official has said a day after President Xi Jinping lashed out at a “law of the jungle” policies that was seen as an attack on the approach of Donald Trump.
“The Chinese side is ready to have a discussion with the US on issues of mutual concern and work for a solution on trade acceptable to both sides,” said Wang Qishan, vice-president and close confidant of Mr Xi who is one of the country’s top officials responsible for relations with Washington.
