Canada’s foreign minister on Wednesday said her government was worried about a second citizen who had been asked questions by Chinese authorities after it was revealed a former Canadian diplomat had been detained in Beijing.
Chrystia Freeland said Canada is working to locate the whereabouts of the citizen whom it has not been able to contact since and has raised the case with Beijing.
“We are aware of a Canadian who got in touch with us because he was being asked questions by Chinese authorities”, Ms Freeland said. “We have not been able to make contact with him since he let us know about this. We are working very hard to ascertain his whereabouts, and we have also raised this case with the Chinese authorities and are in touch with his family.”
