China’s top economic official expected to visit US for trade talks

Liu He, China's top economic official, is expected to travel to Washington in the coming weeks for a new round of high-level talks to defuse trade tensions with the US, adding a building sense of momentum towards an agreement between the two countries.

“The current intent is that the Vice Premier Liu He most likely come and visit us later in the month,” Mr Mnuchin told reporters at a briefing, according to Bloomberg News.

His comments came in the wake of three days of negotiations in Beijing this week led by deputy US trade representative Jeff Gerrish and including David Malpass, the top Treasury official for international affairs, which made some progress in narrowing the divide between the countries.
