Mike Pompeo optimistic about North Korea denuclearisation

US secretary of state Mike Pompeo has expressed optimism over North Korea’s denuclearisation, saying he anticipated progress by the end of next month, when the US and North Korean leaders are expected to meet for a second summit.

But his confidence ahead of the meeting, which many observers speculate will be held in Vietnam, has been questioned by experts. The existence of another secret missile site in North Korea was revealed on Monday by a Washington-based think-tank.

Mr Pompeo, addressing the World Economic Forum in Davos via satellite link on Tuesday, said the two sides had made further progress when Kim Yong Chol, North Korea’s chief nuclear envoy, met US president Donald Trump in Washington last week.
