Apple has said it is fixing a software bug that lets some iPhone users listen in on others using its FaceTime app before they have picked up a call.
The flaw allows iPhone users to place a group call via Apple’s video chat app, FaceTime, and hear audio from the recipient before that person has answered the call. Meanwhile, the recipient is unaware that they can be heard.
The glitch, which the Financial Times was able to test, was highlighted on social media just hours after Apple’s chief executive Tim Cook called on Twitter for “action and reform for vital privacy protections”. Commenting as part of Data Privacy Day, he added: “The dangers are real and the consequences are too important.”
