Democrats raise heat on Barr with vote to subpoena Mueller report

Congressional Democrats have voted to authorise a subpoena for Robert Mueller’s full report into Russian meddling in the 2016 election, setting up a constitutional stand-off that could shape the rest of Donald Trump’s presidency.

The party-line vote by the House of Representatives judiciary committee, which has taken the lead in investigating the Trump campaign’s conduct since Democrats won control of the chamber, would allow for subpoenas for the report itself as well as evidence and testimony Mr Mueller collected.

Jerrold Nadler, the committee’s chair, said he would not immediately issue the subpoenas in order to allow William Barr, the attorney-general, time to turn over the report and its underlying evidence voluntarily.
