Japan has located the wreckage of an F-35 stealth fighter that crashed into the Pacific on Tuesday, the country’s Air Self Defence Force said.
Defence minister Takeshi Iwaya told reporters on Wednesday that four aircraft had been conducting a drill on Tuesday evening when communication with one of the F-35 was cut off. The aircraft’s pilot is still missing, Mr Iwaya said.
Reuters reported that the crashed plane was the first F-35 assembled in Japan by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, quoting an unnamed defence official.
