Russia plans Vladimir Putin-North Korea talks, reports say

The Kremlin is preparing a meeting between Russian president Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, as Moscow seeks an expanded role in talks over the future of the country.

South Korean news agency Yonhap reported on Monday that plans were under way for a meeting next week between the two leaders, citing unnamed sources, after Mr Putin’s scheduled visit to China for an investment forum.

“I can confirm that the meeting is being prepared. Indeed, we have been talking about this for a long time,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters when asked about the reports.
