An Indian court has lifted a countrywide ban on the TikTok short-video app after its owners signalled they would take a series of measures to improve safety, highlighting the concessions the Chinese developer is being forced to make to deflect criticism from regulators.
In a hearing on Wednesday evening, the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court reversed its April 3 ruling that resulted in Apple and Google pulling TikTok from their platforms last week.
The court had acted on allegations that TikTok was “degrading culture and encouraging pornography”.
