Iran has said it will breach the curbs set on uranium enrichment levels under a landmark nuclear agreement with major powers, in a move that could further escalate tensions between the Islamic republic and the US.
This is the second retaliatory step taken by Iran in protest at the other signatories’ failure to deliver on their commitments under the 2015 nuclear deal, US president Donald Trump’s abandonment of the deal and the reimposition of US sanctions.
“We have revised our commitments to [curbing] the percentage of uranium enrichment level,” Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s deputy foreign minister, announced at a press conference on Sunday.
