Lady Gaga takes on the junk celebrity

Lady Gaga launched her new beauty brand Haus Laboratories on Amazon Prime this week, enabling her fans to pre-order collections of lip gloss and colour for delivery in September. The pop singer and actor is making another splash by becoming a vertically integrated designer and promoter.

Diversifying from music into fashion is the latest thing for superstars such as Gaga or Rihanna, who launched her fashion house Fenty with LVMH, the luxury group, after starting in beauty. “God gave me this voice for a reason,” Gaga declared of her new venture.

Celebrity brands are not new — even Roger Federer, the tennis player, has a clothing line. But they are breaking out all over, from A-list artists and performers to social media influencers such as Camila Coelho, the Brazilian-born blogger with 8.1m Instagram followers who sells her designs through the online retailer Revolve.
