Vaping companies are facing darkening prospects in Asia as countries ban e-cigarettes, cutting off an important growth market for manufacturers as a backlash grows.
There are more than 300m smokers in China, who make up a third of the total, while India has more than 266m tobacco users. Both countries represent potentially fertile soil for e-cigarette profits.
But on Wednesday, India’s cabinet was the latest to announce a ban, as well as up to three years in jail for those who manufacture, import or sell the products, citing an alarming rise of vaping among young people.
