Global stocks were higher on Thursday, with gains masked by bouts of volatility in some regions as investors turned their gaze to the resumption of high-level trade talks in Washington between the US and China.
On Wall Street, the S&P 500 was up 0.7 per cent in early trade despite futures having tipped the benchmark to open lower. The Nasdaq Composite added 0.7 per cent.
Liu He, China’s vice premier, is to begin the latest session of trade talks with Robert Lighthizer, US trade representative, and Steven Mnuchin, the US Treasury secretary, on Thursday and Friday.
