Bloomsbury Publishing has been dragged into the trade dispute between the US and China as the publisher behind the Harry Potter series is hit by tariffs on some of its books.
The 15 per cent charge on $300bn of goods that US President Donald Trump introduced on September 1 affects about 50 titles that Bloomsbury will print in China and ship for sale in the US before the end of its financial year in February.
Nigel Newton, founder and chief executive, said Bloomsbury “can take it in our stride, but we certainly could have done without it”, adding that the “small charge” would not “throw off the delivery of our results”.
