Boeing recommends simulator training for 737 Max pilots

Boeing has recommended that pilots for the 737 Max receive training in flight simulators instead of only using software, raising the prospect of fresh costs and delays before the grounded aircraft returns to service.

Greg Smith, the aerospace company’s interim chief executive, said in a statement on Tuesday that “public, customer and stakeholder confidence in the 737 Max is critically important to us and with that focus Boeing has decided to recommend Max simulator training combined with computer-based training for all pilots prior to returning the Max safely to service.”

The move represents a departure for the beleaguered plane maker. Previously it has said pilots could retrain on the jet using a software program.
