Mahathir Mohamad, Malaysia's prime minister, has submitted his resignation after 24 hours of turmoil within the country's governing coalition.
The prime minister's office said in a statement on Monday that Mr Mahathir had sent a letter to the country's king at 1pm.
The announcement followed a tense 24 hours during which Anwar Ibrahim, the leader of the largest party in the ruling coalition, People's Justice Party (PKR), accused some of his MPs of betrayal.
