Sub-Saharan Africa will see its first recession in 25 years because of the severe impact of the coronavirus pandemic, according to a new World Bank report.
Growth is forecast to plummet from 2.4 per cent in 2019 to between -2.1 per cent and -5.1 per cent, led by the region's largest economies - Nigeria, Angola and South Africa - and other commodity-export driven markets.
The outbreak also has the potential to spark a food security crisis across the continent, according to the report.
