Johnson shook hands ‘continuously’ despite science panel warnings

Boris Johnson boasted of shaking hands with Covid-19 patients on the same day he was warned against all such physical contact, according to newly released minutes from a meeting of Sage, the UK’s scientific advisory group.

Details of the meeting on March 3 said there was agreement across the group that the government should advise against human contact. Yet hours later, the prime minister, who subsequently contracted Covid-19, stated at a press conference that he was “continuously” shaking hands.

The document is among 16 papers showing minutes of meetings and evidence presented to the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies which the government released on Tuesday. All but two of these date back to March and February.
