Nearly a third of US companies in Hong Kong are considering shifting part of their business out of the city but only 3.8 per cent expect to leave altogether after Beijing imposed a security law on the territory.
The vast majority, or 76 per cent, of the 183 businesses surveyed by the city’s American Chamber of Commerce in July said they were concerned about the legislation.
Before the law came into force on July 1, several executives told the Financial Times that they would stomach the legislation if they cooled tensions between police and protesters, or believed it would be aimed solely at activists.
