Former First Lady Michelle Obama pronounced Donald Trump unfit for the US presidency in an impassioned speech at the Democratic National Convention on Monday night as the party attempted to present a broad base of support for Joe Biden’s candidacy.
Mrs Obama accused Mr Trump of a “total lack of empathy” and said his administration had spread “chaos and division” at a time when Americans were looking for “leadership and consolation” during the coronavirus pandemic.
“Donald Trump is the wrong president for our country,” Mrs Obama said in a pre-recorded speech. “He has had more than enough time to prove that he can do the job, but he is clearly in over his head. He cannot meet this moment. He simply cannot be who we need him to be for us. It is what it is.”
