Beijing has criticised New Delhi for launching “frequent investigations” into Chinese companies operating in India, after financial authorities raided Chinese mobile phonemaker Vivo over money-laundering allegations.India’s Enforcement Directorate, the finance ministry’s enforcement agency, searched 44 Vivo dealerships and production sites on Tuesday. Vivo said it was co-operating with Indian authorities.
The raid was New Delhi’s latest action against a Chinese-owned company, after authorities accused Xiaomi, another device maker, of unlawfully remitting more than $700mn abroad in May. Xiaomi denied wrongdoing.
Wang Xiaojian, spokesperson for the Chinese embassy in India, said officials were closely following Vivo’s case.
