Donald Trump and Xi Jinping have held their first call since the US and Chinese presidents last month met in South Korea and agreed a truce in the trade tariff war between the superpowers.

China’s state news agency Xinhua said the leaders discussed several issues during the call on Monday, including the development of bilateral relations since their October 30 summit, and the war in Ukraine. It said Xi had also stressed the importance of “Taiwan’s return to China”.

The US president later wrote on Truth Social that they had a “very good” call and discussed topics including Ukraine, fentanyl and soyabeans.
