US home improvement chain denies it is colluding with ICE round-ups targeting undocumented workers

Home Depot has long attracted immigrant day labourers seeking to hire themselves out from its car parks. Their presence is now drawing government agents to question and arrest them.

The largest US home improvement chain is under a harsh spotlight as its big-box stores become a backdrop for President Donald Trump’s drive to deport 1mn immigrants a year.

In Oregon, a witness filmed masked agents frogmarching a man past store checkout lanes. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents have made arrests outside Home Depot stores in cities including New Orleans, Charlotte and Chicago.
