Iran’s top negotiators travelled to Qatar on Monday as mediators intensified efforts to thrash out the final details of a deal between the Islamic republic and Washington to extend a fragile ceasefire by 60 days and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
The visit to Doha by Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Iran’s powerful parliamentary speaker and lead negotiator, and foreign minister Abbas Araghchi, was part of ongoing discussions as mediators seek to nail down the final details of an agreement, a person briefed on the discussions said.
Tasnim, a semi-official state news agency affiliated with Iran’s powerful Revolutionary Guards, confirmed the visit.
