Pentagon restores Alibaba, Baidu and BYD to Chinese military groups blacklist

Three companies reinstated as US national security risk after sudden removal from list in February

The Pentagon has reinstated Alibaba, Baidu and BYD to a blacklist of Chinese companies deemed to pose a national security risk to the US because of alleged connections to the People’s Liberation Army.

The defence department added the groups to its “Chinese military companies” list on Monday, a reputational risk for them.

The move comes nearly one month after Donald Trump and Xi Jinping met in Beijing and agreed to work towards a “constructive relationship of strategic stability”. Xi is expected to visit the US in September.
