The number of civil servants in the same pay bracket as the UK prime minister has more than doubled in two years.
Inflation-linked pay rises and the need to bring in outside experts have contributed to a growing number of government employees on six-figure salaries.
In the past year the number of civil servants earning between £150,000 and £200,000 increased by 44 per cent following a rise of 49 per cent the previous year — equivalent to a 114 per cent increase since March 2023.
